The crescent moon and star is usually the trademark for the Crescent Watch Case Co. They made very good cases. I have seen many of these in nickel with 4-digit serial numbers, and I am guessing that may be what you have. Nickel cases are very sturdy and dependable cases. I have also seen silver and gold-filled cases from Crescent, but have yet to see a solid gold example.
